The working principle of tube ice machines is as follows: A refrigerant is applied to the exterior of the stainless steel tube to form ice, and water is pumped from a reservoir over the inner surface of the tube. A hot gas is supplied after the ice reaches the desired thickness. The gas then falls into a revolving blade, which breaks up the ice and discharges it into a storage container that can be used.

The low side freezer automatically freezes the ice in the vertical stainless steel tubes. An accumulator is used by the top tank to circulate the refrigerant throughout the freezer. After the heated gas has been routed around the tubes to release it downward by gravity, the ice is then chopped into preset sizes of 19, 25, or 36 mm using a specially designed cutter.
